Your Northeast adventure begins as you land in the vibrant city of Guwahati. The air feels different here—earthy, spiritual, and alive.
Your first stop is the revered Kamakhya Temple, perched atop Nilachal Hill. One of India’s most powerful Shakti Peethas, the temple is deeply mystical and steeped in tantric traditions. The panoramic views of the Brahmaputra River below are serene and soul-stirring.
Good to Know:
-
Dress modestly and expect queues. VIP darshan tickets are available for those who prefer quicker entry.
-
Mornings are less crowded.
-
Photography is not allowed inside the sanctum.
After soaking in blessings, begin your scenic drive (approx. 4–5 hours) to Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for the one-horned rhinoceros.
Check into your jungle lodge and unwind. Let the sounds of the wild lull you into excitement for tomorrow.
Day 2 – 27 April “Into the Grasslands & Into the Clouds: From Rhinos to Cherrapunji”
Rise early for a thrilling Jeep Safari in Kaziranga’s tall elephant grasslands. Watch for the majestic one-horned rhino, wild elephants, swamp deer, and if you’re lucky, even a tiger.
The golden morning light makes the experience magical.
Good to Know:
-
Carry binoculars and wear muted colors.
-
Early morning safaris offer better wildlife sightings.
Post safari, begin your scenic journey to Cherrapunji (Sohra), once known as the wettest place on Earth. The drive winds through misty hills, waterfalls, and dramatic cliffs.
By evening, settle into your stay amidst rolling green landscapes and cool mountain air.
Day 3 – 28 April “Walking on Living Roots & Chasing Rainbows”
Today is a true Meghalaya highlight!
Trek to the legendary Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Nongriat village. These bio-engineered wonders are grown from rubber tree roots by the Khasi tribes over decades. Crossing the bridge feels like stepping into a fantasy novel.
Nearby, visit the enchanting Rainbow Waterfall (if weather permits). Under sunlight, you may see rainbow hues shimmering in the cascading water.
Good to Know:
-
The trek involves approx. 3,000+ steps (both ways). Moderate to challenging.
-
Start early to avoid heat and crowds.
-
Wear sturdy trekking shoes with good grip.
-
Carry water and light snacks.
Return tired but exhilarated, with stories etched forever.
Day 4 – 29 April “Hidden Waterfalls, Whistling Villages & Riverside Camping Under the Stars”
Start your day with a trek to the stunning Wai Sawdong Waterfalls—a multi-tiered turquoise cascade tucked deep inside lush forest. It’s one of Meghalaya’s most photogenic hidden gems.
Next, pause at the dramatic Mawkdok Dympep Valley Viewpoint. The sweeping canyon views are breathtaking.
Continue to the fascinating Kongthong, famously known as the Whistling Village. Each resident has a unique tune used as their identity—an ancient tradition that feels almost magical.
Visit the serene Mawryngkhang Living Root Bridge nearby (often referred to as Myor Living Root Bridge).
By evening, head to Shnongpdeng for riverside camping.
Important:
Pack a small overnight bag before leaving Cherrapunji—your main luggage can be stored safely.
Fall asleep by the crystal-clear river under a sky full of stars.
Day 5 – 30 April “Crystal Waters & The Cleanest Village in Asia”
Wake up to the tranquil beauty of the Umngot River. Enjoy boating in Dawki, where the water is so clear the boats appear to float on air.
Visit the charming India-Bangladesh Border at Dawki for a quick photo stop.
Continue to the stunning turquoise Krang Suri Falls. The pool here is perfect for a refreshing dip.
Later, head to Mawlynnong, celebrated as the cleanest village in Asia. Bamboo dustbins, tidy lanes, and flower-lined pathways make it delightful.
Climb the Sky View bamboo tower for panoramic views of Bangladesh plains.
Overnight in Mawlynnong’s peaceful homestay.
Day 6 – 1 May “Scotland of the East: Shillong’s Colonial Charm & Cascading Falls”
Depart for Shillong, fondly called the Scotland of the East.
First stop: Shillong Peak for sweeping hilltop views. On clear days, you can even see Bangladesh.
Next, admire the cascading beauty of Elephant Falls.
Enjoy a relaxing walk around Ward's Lake—a charming man-made lake surrounded by gardens.
Wrap up your day shopping and café hopping at Police Bazar. Pick up local handicrafts, Khasi shawls, bamboo products, and try momos or Jadoh.
Overnight in Shillong.
Day 7 – 2 May “Farewell to the Abode of Clouds”
After breakfast, drive back to Guwahati airport (approx. 3–4 hours).
