Golden to Hills — where sacred beginnings meet mountain endings.
Day 1 (18 May): “Where Faith Glows & Freedom Echoes” – Amritsar to Dalhousie
Your journey begins in the sacred city of Amritsar, where spirituality and history blend into an unforgettable welcome.
Upon arrival at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, step straight into the divine aura of the magnificent Golden Temple. As the gilded sanctum shimmers in the sacred Amrit Sarovar, the air hums with soulful kirtan. Walk barefoot along the marble parikrama, and if time permits, experience the serenity of the Langar — the world’s largest free community kitchen.
A short walk away lies the solemn grounds of Jallianwala Bagh, where history whispers tales of courage and sacrifice. The preserved bullet marks and memorial flame offer a powerful reminder of India’s freedom struggle.
By afternoon, begin your scenic drive to Dalhousie. As plains slowly give way to rolling hills and pine forests, the mountain breeze greets you. Arrive in the charming hill town of Dalhousie by evening, where colonial architecture and cool Himalayan air promise peaceful nights.
Good to Know:
-
Visit Golden Temple either early morning or post-sunset for the most magical reflection views.
-
Cover shoulders and head inside the temple premises (scarves available at entrance).
Day 2 (19 May): “Switzerland of India & Colonial Charms” – Khajjiar & Dalhousie
Wake up to mist-kissed mountains and birdsong in Dalhousie.
After breakfast, proceed to the breathtaking meadow of Khajjiar — often called the “Mini Switzerland of India.” A vast emerald saucer surrounded by deodar forests, Khajjiar feels like stepping into a fairytale landscape. Visit the ancient Khajji Nag Temple and enjoy leisurely walks, pony rides, or simply lie back and absorb the pristine silence.
Return to Dalhousie for local sightseeing. Explore:
-
Panchpula – a refreshing waterfall and picnic spot
-
Subhash Baoli – named after Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose
-
St. John’s Church – one of the oldest churches in town
-
Mall Road – perfect for evening strolls and local handicraft shopping
As twilight descends, watch the hills turn golden before surrendering to starlit serenity.
Good to Know:
-
Carry light woollens even in May; evenings can be pleasantly chilly.
-

Day 3 (20 May): “From Colonial Calm to Monastic Mystique” – Dalhousie to Dharamshala
After breakfast, bid farewell to Dalhousie and drive towards the spiritual haven of Dharamshala.
The drive itself is picturesque — winding mountain roads, river valleys, and terraced fields painting a soothing panorama.
Upon arrival, relax and enjoy the calm surroundings. Depending on time, explore the local market or simply unwind while admiring views of the mighty Dhauladhar range.
Dharamshala offers a unique blend of Himachali culture and Tibetan spirituality, creating an atmosphere unlike anywhere else.
Good to Know:
-
The journey takes approximately 3–4 hours.
-
Keep motion sickness medication handy if sensitive to mountain roads.
Day 4 (21 May): “Little Lhasa in the Himalayas” – McLeod Ganj & Dharamshala
Today unfolds in the enchanting upper town of McLeod Ganj — often called “Little Lhasa.”

Namgyal Monastery
-
Bhagsu Nag Temple & waterfall
-
Dal Lake (a quaint mountain lake, not to be confused with Kashmir’s)
-

Day 5 (22 May): “Patriotism at Sunset” – Dharamshala to Amritsar & Wagah Border

In the late afternoon, proceed to the electrifying Wagah Border to witness the iconic Beating Retreat Ceremony. As Indian and Pakistani soldiers perform synchronized drills with dramatic flair, the atmosphere bursts with patriotic fervor, cheering crowds, and national pride.
Return to Amritsar for your final overnight stay. You may choose to revisit the Golden Temple at night — when its golden reflection in the water feels almost surreal.
Good to Know:
