Itinerary

D1: 26 Dec – Kuala Lumpur: A Dazzling First Impression

Touch down in Malaysia’s bustling capital and settle in. As the sun sets, head to the KLCC precinct to witness the architectural majesty of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers glowing against the night sky. Get your camera ready for the perfect silhouette from the park below, and contrast it with the distant, blinking lights of the Menara KL (KL Tower) perched on its hill.

Good to Know: The twin towers are closed on Mondays, but the exterior view and the surrounding Lake Symphony light show (usually at 8 PM, 9 PM, and 10 PM) are spectacular. The weather is humid, so an evening stroll is perfect.

D2: 27 Dec – Kuala Lumpur: Spiritual Heights & Cultural Depths

Begin your day with an early trip to the Batu Caves, climbing the vibrant 272 rainbow steps to the limestone cathedral cave. Look out for the cheeky macaques! After descending, dive into the local art scene at the historic Central Market, a hub for Malaysian batik, handicrafts, and souvenir hunting. It’s the perfect place to bargain for unique gifts.

Good to Know: Wear comfortable shoes and dress modestly (covering knees/shoulders) as Batu Caves is a Hindu religious site. If you are hungry, the food court on the second floor of Central Market serves excellent local Laksa.

D3: 28 Dec – Siem Reap: Crossing Borders & Night Bazaars

Bid farewell to Malaysia and take a short flight to Siem Reap, Cambodia. After clearing immigration and checking in, enjoy a relaxed evening. Head to the vibrant Angkor Night Market or the famous Pub Street for your first taste of Khmer cuisine. The air is filled with the smell of grilled street food and the sound of "Tuk Tuk, sir?"

Good to Know: The local currency is Riel, but US Dollars are accepted everywhere.

D4: 29 Dec – Siem Reap: Dawn of the Ancient Empire

Rise before the sun for the ultimate bucket-list moment: sunrise over Angkor Wat. Your guided tour will take you through the "Small Circuit," wandering the intricate galleries of Angkor Wat, the smiling stone faces of the Bayon Temple, and the jungle-engulfed ruins of Ta Prohm (the "Tomb Raider" temple), where tree roots strangle ancient stone.

Good to Know: It gets incredibly hot by midday. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and a refillable water bottle. You must cover your shoulders and knees to enter the temples.

D5: 30 Dec – Luang Prabang: The Jewel of the Mekong

Transit day to Laos. Arrive in Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage town that feels like a peaceful village. The pace slows down immediately. In the evening, climb Mount Phousi to watch the sunset over the Mekong River and the golden spires of the temples below.

Good to Know: There are 300+ steps to the top of Phousi, but the 360-degree view is worth it. Laos is typically 1 hour behind Cambodia/Vietnam time.

D6: 31 Dec – Luang Prabang: Turquoise Pools & a New Year’s Eve to Remember

Escape the heat by taking a scenic tuk-tuk ride through the countryside to the Kuang Si Waterfalls. Swim in the surreal, turquoise lagoons, hike to the top of the main falls, and visit the Free the Bears rescue center at the entrance. Return to town in the evening to explore the Night Market—famous for its handwoven textiles and quiet, laid-back atmosphere—before counting down to midnight.

Good to Know: Wear your swimsuit under your clothes. The water is cool and refreshing. In Laos, New Year’s Eve is lively but much more relaxed than in neighboring countries; expect lantern releases by the river.

D7: 1 Jan – Hanoi: Stepping into the Old Quarter

Happy New Year! You are off to Vietnam. Landing in Hanoi is a sensory overload of motorbikes, street vendors, and colonial architecture. Spend your first evening wandering the chaotic yet charming Old Quarter, enjoying a steaming bowl of Pho and a glass of Bia Hoi (fresh local draft beer) on a plastic stool on the sidewalk.

Good to Know: Crossing the road in Hanoi is an art form—walk slowly and steadily, and the motorbikes will weave around you. Ensure you have a valid e-visa for Vietnam.

D8: 2 Jan – Halong Bay: Sailing Through the Dragon’s Descending

Take a day cruise through the breathtaking karst limestone pillars of Halong Bay. Your itinerary includes kayaking through hidden lagoons, exploring the stunning stalactites of Sung Sot (Surprise) Cave, and hiking up to Ti Top Island for a panoramic view of the emerald waters.

Good to Know: It is a 2.5 to 3-hour drive from Hanoi to Halong Bay (often with a rest stop). During winter (January), the bay can be misty and cool—bring a jacket, as it adds a mysterious atmosphere to the scenery.

D9: 3 Jan – Ninh Binh: The Inland Halong Bay

Travel south to Ninh Binh, often called "Halong Bay on land." Visit the ancient capital of Hoa Lu to learn about Vietnamese dynasties. Then, challenge your legs by climbing the 500 steps to the top of Lying Dragon Mountain (Hang Mua) for an unforgettable view over the rice paddies and the river. Finish the day with a peaceful boat ride through the caves of Trang An.

Good to Know: This is a very active day. The steps at Hang Mua are steep and uneven, so take your time. The boat ride at Trang An is usually 2-3 hours; you will often be rowed by a local using their feet!

D10: 4 Jan – Hanoi: Mausoleums, Lakes & Last Souvenirs

Your final full day! Dive into Hanoi’s history with the Ho Chi Minh Complex (Mausoleum, Stilt House, and One Pillar Pagoda) and the Temple of Literature. In the afternoon, stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake and visit the red bridge leading to Ngoc Son Temple. The nearby streets are perfect for last-minute shopping for silk, coffee, or lacquerware.

Good to Know: Dress formally (no shorts or tank tops) if you plan to enter the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. It is only open in the mornings and closed on Mondays and Fridays, so check your dates accordingly.

D11: 5 Jan – Departure from Hanoi

Enjoy a final Vietnamese coffee or a leisurely breakfast before your transfer to Noi Bai International Airport. Depart with a camera full of photos and a heart full of memories from this incredible Southeast Asian journey.

Good to Know: Allow at least 3 hours for international departure check-in and security at Hanoi airport during the holiday season, as it can get very busy.
