Itinerary

Day 1: Munich Arrival — Bavaria Beckons

Route: Munich Airport → City Hotel

Welcome to Germany! Arrive at Munich Airport and transfer to your hotel in the heart of Bavaria's vibrant capital. After settling in, the evening is yours to explore at leisure. Stroll through the historic Altstadt (Old Town), marvel at the neo-Gothic Neues Rathaus with its famous Glockenspiel, or simply unwind at a traditional Biergarten with a cold Augustiner and a warm pretzel. Munich's efficient U-Bahn makes getting around effortless, and most attractions are within walking distance of Marienplatz.

Good to Know: Munich's public transport runs until around 1 AM on weekdays. Pick up a day pass if you plan to hop around. Most shops close by 8 PM, but restaurants and bars stay open late. Carry some euros in cash — smaller establishments may not accept cards.

Day 2: Romantic Road & Rothenburg — A Journey Through Medieval Bavaria

Route: Munich → Harburg → Nördlinger Ries → Dinkelsbühl → Rothenburg ob der Tauber → Hallertau → Munich

Step into a fairy tale as you travel the legendary Romantic Road, a 220-mile route linking Bavaria's most exquisite architectural gems. Your first stop is Harburg Castle, one of Germany's oldest and best-preserved castle complexes, where the Middle Ages still echo through its towers and cobbled courtyards. After a coffee break, continue through the otherworldly landscape of the Nördlinger Ries — a massive crater left by an ancient meteor impact that shaped the Swabian countryside.

Pass through the charming towers and spires of Dinkelsbühl before arriving at Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a perfectly restored medieval town frozen in time. Wander its enchanting streets, walk the complete city walls, and soak in centuries of history. Your return journey cuts through the Hallertau, the world's largest hop-growing region — a sea of green that produces the backbone of Bavarian beer.

Good to Know: Wear comfortable shoes — Rothenburg's cobblestones are charming but unforgiving. The town's famous Schneeballen (snowball pastries) make great souvenirs. Book the castle tour in advance during peak season. The drive covers roughly 450 km round-trip, so bring snacks and a good playlist.

Day 3: Zugspitze Summit — Touching the Roof of Germany

Route: Munich → Garmisch-Partenkirchen → Zugspitze Summit → Garmisch-Partenkirchen → Munich

Today you conquer Germany's highest peak. Travel to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the charming Alpine town that hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics, then ascend by cable car to the Zugspitze summit at 2,962 meters. Standing at the border between Germany and Austria, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views stretching across four countries on clear days. Explore the summit's restaurants, shops, and telescopes before descending to a mountain hut for lunch with views over the Alps.

The adventure continues as you "jump" from Germany into Austria — no passport required — to enjoy a beer at Germany's highest beer garden. The return journey combines a cable-car and cog-wheel train ride through breathtaking mountain scenery. End the day exploring Garmisch-Partenkirchen's historic old town with its painted facades and Alpine charm.

Good to Know: Weather at the summit can be 10-15°C colder than the valley — bring layers, sunglasses, and sunscreen. The cable car may close in high winds. Check the live webcam before departing. Altitude sickness is rare but possible; take it slow at the top.

Day 4: Königssee & Berchtesgaden — Emerald Waters and Alpine Majesty

Route: Munich → German Alpine Road → Königssee → St. Bartholomä → Salet → Obersee → Munich

Journey along the picturesque German Alpine Road into the stunning Berchtesgaden valley, home to the jewel of Bavaria — Lake Königssee. Board an electric boat and glide across emerald waters so pure they've been protected for over a century. Listen for the famous echo demonstrated by a trumpeter, amplified by towering rock cliffs, and watch for the distinctive silhouette of the "Sleeping Witch" in the mountains.

Disembark at St. Bartholomä, a pilgrimage chapel dating back to 1134, nestled at the base of the mighty Watzmann (2,700 meters). Continue to Salet and hike to Lake Obersee, where Germany's tallest waterfall, the Röthbachfall, cascades dramatically into the stillness. In winter (mid-October to mid-April), the boat only reaches St. Bartholomä; instead, explore the charming old town of Berchtesgaden.

Good to Know: Boat tickets and lunch are not included — pay cash directly to the guide. The full journey takes 8-10 hours. Bring sturdy shoes for the Obersee hike. The lake is drinkable but bring your own water anyway. This is a photographer's paradise — charge your camera!

Day 5: Munich to Frankfurt — From Bavaria to the Main Metropolis

Route: Munich Hbf → (Direct train, 4h) → Frankfurt am Main Hbf → River Main Cruise

Board a direct train from Munich to Frankfurt, watching the Bavarian countryside give way to the Rhine-Main region. Upon arrival, stretch your legs on a River Main sightseeing cruise departing from Eiserner Steg. Choose a 50-minute downstream journey toward Griesheim for views of Frankfurt's financial skyscrapers and museum embankment, or head upstream to Offenbach for the charming Sachsenhausen district and its museum-lined banks. The 100-minute option combines both for the full panorama.

Cruises depart at 11 AM, 1 PM, 3 PM, and 5 PM (downstream) and 12 PM, 2 PM, and 4 PM (upstream). Commentary is provided in English and German.

Good to Know: Frankfurt Hbf is a major hub — follow signs carefully. The cruise departs rain or shine, so dress accordingly. Seats outside offer the best views but go quickly. Frankfurt's Apfelwein (apple wine) is a local specialty worth trying in Sachsenhausen.

Day 6: Frankfurt to Berlin — Capital Bound

Route: Frankfurt am Main Hbf → (Direct train) → Berlin Hbf → Hotel → Evening: Ice Bar (Optional)

Enjoy a scenic train ride from Frankfurt to Berlin, watching the landscape shift from the Rhine-Main metropolis to the sprawling capital. After checking into your hotel, the evening is yours. For a unique experience, visit a Berlin Ice Bar — sip cocktails at -10°C in a winter wonderland of ice sculptures, with warm gear provided. Alternatively, explore the vibrant neighborhoods of Mitte or Kreuzberg, where history and nightlife collide.

Good to Know: Berlin Hbf is a massive station — allow extra time to navigate. The Ice Bar requires advance booking and typically includes one or two drinks. Berlin's U-Bahn runs all night on weekends. Don't forget to validate your train ticket before boarding.

Day 7: Berlin's Lakes & Waterways — A Tale of Two Cruises

Route: Berlin → Wannsee → Havel Lakes → Wannsee → Berlin City Center → Reichstag → Spree River

Discover Berlin from the water on two distinct cruises. Begin with the Seven Lakes Tour from Wannsee Station, a 100-minute journey through the picturesque Havel Lakes — Pohlesee, Stölpchensee, Griebnitzsee, Glienicker See, and Jungfernsee. Glide past Babelsberg Palace and the Church of the Redeemer in Sacrow, and learn about famous residents like painter Max Liebermann and playwright Heinrich von Kleist.

In the evening, board the HEMINGWAY for a refined 90-minute Sundown Aperitif Tour through Berlin's historic city center. Departing from the Reichstag riverbank (look for the yellow FLAGSHIP.BERLIN flags), this quiet, elegant cruise offers fine drinks, balanced commentary, and gentle music as Berlin's landmarks glide by.

Good to Know: The Seven Lakes Tour departs from Wannsee Station — take the S-Bahn from central Berlin. The HEMINGWAY is a smaller, quieter boat — perfect for avoiding crowds. Drinks on board are an additional cost. Book the Sundown Tour in advance, especially in summer.

Day 8: Dresden & Saxon Switzerland — Baroque Splendor and Sandstone Peaks

Route: Berlin → Dresden → Saxon Switzerland National Park → Bastei Bridge → Berlin

Discover two of Germany's most remarkable destinations in one unforgettable day. Begin in Dresden, the "Florence on the Elbe," where a guided walking tour brings centuries of history to life. Marvel at the reconstructed Frauenkirche, the world-famous Semper Opera House, the elegant Zwinger Palace, and the Fürstenzug — one of the world's largest porcelain murals. Enjoy free time for lunch, museums, or boutique browsing along the Elbe.

In the afternoon, journey to the Bastei Bridge in Saxon Switzerland National Park, Germany's most breathtaking natural attraction. Rising 200 meters above the Elbe River, this historic sandstone bridge connects dramatic rock formations that have inspired artists and travelers for centuries. Walk across the bridge and drink in panoramic views of deep valleys, towering cliffs, and dense forests.

Good to Know: This is a full-day tour — expect 12+ hours. Wear sturdy shoes for the Bastei walk. Dresden's Christmas Market (November-December) is world-famous. The Bastei can be crowded midday — the afternoon timing helps avoid peak crowds.

Day 9: Berlin to Brussels — Crossing Borders

Route: Berlin Hbf → (1-stop train, 25 min) → Brussels-Midi → Hotel → Evening: Explore

Travel from Berlin to Brussels with a smooth train connection, arriving in the heart of the Belgian capital. After checking in, explore at your leisure. Wander through the Grand-Place, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Europe's most beautiful squares, sample Belgian waffles, and discover the city's legendary comic strip murals. The evening is perfect for a leisurely dinner with moules-frites and a local Trappist beer.

Good to Know: Brussels-Midi is the main international station — taxis and metro connections are readily available. The Grand-Place is illuminated at night — a must-see. Most museums close by 5 PM, but restaurants serve late. Learn a few French or Dutch phrases — locals appreciate the effort.

Day 10: Antwerp & Ghent — Flemish Gems in a Day

Route: Brussels → Atomium → Antwerp → Ghent → Brussels

Begin with a photo stop at the iconic Atomium, then continue to Antwerp, Belgium's vibrant diamond capital. Explore the Meat Market, Steen Castle, Town Hall Square, the Gothic Church of Our Lady, and the elegant Meir Street. Enjoy free time to wander before heading to Ghent, a city that seamlessly blends medieval grandeur with modern energy.

In Ghent, visit the Cathedral of St. Bavo (home to Van Eyck's "Adoration of the Mystic Lamb"), the Belfort Bell Tower, the Castle of the Counts of Flanders, and the picturesque Wharf of the Herbs and Grain. This is Flanders at its most enchanting.

Good to Know: Wear comfortable shoes — both cities are best explored on foot. The tour starts at 8:30 AM sharp. Bring cash for snacks and souvenirs. Antwerp's fashion district is worth a detour if you have time. Ghent's castle offers rooftop views — worth the climb.

Day 11: Bruges, Damme & Windmills — Canals, Beer & Medieval Magic

Route: Brussels → Kruisvest Windmills → Kruispoort & Gentpoort → Damme → Bruges → Brussels

Your adventure begins the moment you board the bus, with a panoramic tour of Brussels bringing the capital to life. Before reaching Damme, watch for the iconic Kruisvest Windmills along the canal and the medieval gates of Kruispoort and Gentpoort, with the UNESCO-listed skyline of Bruges slowly emerging.

Your first stop is Damme, one of Belgium's best-kept secrets — a medieval port with cobbled streets, Flemish brick facades, and a stunning 15th-century Gothic Town Hall. Then it's on to Bruges, the "Venice of the North." Enjoy free time to wander the historic center, take a canal boat ride, and have lunch at your own pace. Beer tasting is included for the adventurous.

Good to Know: The canal boat ride is a highlight — book early in peak season. Bruges' chocolate shops are legendary — buy some for home. Damme is quiet and photogenic — perfect for those "everyone will ask" photos. The tour returns to Brussels in the evening.

Day 12: Brussels Local — Atomium & Mini Europe (Optional)

Route: Brussels → Atomium → Mini Europe → Brussels

Spend your final full day exploring Brussels at your own pace. Visit the Atomium, the iconic 1958 World's Fair structure, and ascend to its panoramic viewing sphere. Nearby, Mini Europe offers a playful walk through the continent's greatest landmarks in miniature — perfect for families or anyone short on time. Alternatively, explore the Royal Museums of Fine Arts, the Musical Instruments Museum, or simply relax in the Parc de Bruxelles.

Good to Know: The Atomium and Mini Europe are located at Heysel, easily reached by metro. Combined tickets offer savings. Brussels' comic strip museum (Centre Belge de la Bande Dessinée) is a hidden gem. Pack tonight — tomorrow you depart.

Day 13: Departure from Brussels — Until Next Time

Route: Hotel → Brussels Airport

After breakfast, transfer to Brussels Airport for your departure. Depending on your flight time, you may have time for a final Belgian waffle or a last-minute chocolate run. Safe travels — and may your memories of Germany and Belgium linger long after you've returned home.

Good to Know: Brussels Airport is about 30 minutes from the city center by train. Allow at least 2 hours before your flight for check-in and security. Customs can be slow during peak hours. Duty-free shopping offers Belgian chocolates and beer — but check your home country's import limits.
